Help Take Peanut Butter to the Bank ~ Volunteer at Peanut Butter Cannery
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnership
Thank you for your interest in supporting the Houston Food Bank peanut butter canning program. We hope you will be able to join us with a team of volunteers. Due to the economic climate and the gulf coast hurricanes, the demand on the Houston Food Bank resources has increased considerably making this project more important in helping the HFB meet the critical needs of those who struggle to provide food for their families.
Why Peanut Butter Peanut Butter is our most-requested item. It's nutritious, requires no refrigeration, and can even be eaten right out of the jar.
Volunteers - a full shift requires 20 volunteers (four hours), half shift is 10 volunteers
FDA requirements - Try not to wear jewelry or watches as they attract bacteria and can be dangerous near the microwave equipment. It's best to keep the items at home. Please wear comfortable shoes (rubber-soled shoes) and bring a sweater or jacket.
Church facility regulations - There is no smoking inside or outside the building, which includes the adjacent properties to the east and west of the complex.
Location - The cannery is located at 16333 Hafer Road, which is near the intersection of I-45 and FM1960
All cannery shifts are full for the remainder of 2010. The facility will be closed July 2010 through December 2010 to expand and renovate.
