But for many, the idea of exercise is tied to intense workouts or pushing yourself to the limit. This is where joyful movement comes in — a more compassionate approach that makes moving your body something you want to do, rather than something you have to do.

Joyful movement is about honoring your body and finding ways to move that you genuinely enjoy. Some days you might crave a run. Other days, you might prefer a slower, more relaxed way of moving. Both are great! Whether that is walking your dog, dancing, swimming, sports, or stretching, joyful movement is about celebrating what your body can do. It doesn’t have to fit into a specific timeframe, it can be as short or as long as you want it to be.

Tips for incorporating movement into your life

  • Pair movement with things you already enjoy to make it more fun!
  • Focus on what feels manageable at the moment. There’s no need for
perfection or to reach a specific goal. All movement is valid!
  • Allow yourself to be a beginner. Everyone has to start somewhere. It
doesn’t matter what it looks like, it matters what it feels like.
  • Invite a friend, family member, or your kids to join you!

Think about how natural it was when you were a kid — rolling around, bouncing, or pretending to be a horse. It was fun. It wasn’t about calories or goals. It was about moving because it felt right. Your body is amazing as it is! Celebrate it by moving in ways that bring you joy!
