As Floridians are still trying to come to grips with the destruction of Hurricane Helene, they are now dealing with the consequences of Hurricane Milton. Our hearts go out to all who have been impacted by the devastation caused by this storm season. Houstonians know all too well that recovery can be a long road. While Houston was spared the impact of these hurricanes, our commitment as food bankers is to go where help is needed. I am so proud that we are both able and willing to step up for others.

Following Hurricane Helene, drivers Leonel and Darren, along with Warehouse Associate Jamarcus, quickly headed out to help Second Harvest of the Big Bend Food Bank in Tallahassee, Florida. After almost two weeks of service, they will head back to Houston. We are proud and value providing backup support to our fellow food banks.

In response to Hurricane Milton, on Friday, drivers Elian and Ed will drive two semis loaded with MREs, water, and a good number of 200-watt solar-powered generators. They will serve as loaner staff based in Tampa for two weeks. We rented sleeper cabs so Elian and Ed minimize strain on the resources in Florida.

We thank our drivers for the sacrifice to assist our neighbors in Florida. I am proud of our disaster relief volunteers and for all of you who have made Houston Food Bank the food bank that can go the extra mile for others.
